Unveiling Truth: The Artistic Progression of A Police Interrogation Video
I have decided to begin a journey of exploring police interrogation video stills in oil on canvas. Police interrogations are awkward, uncomfortable, important, scary and fascinating. The granulated muted images produced from out of date cameras provide a gritty feeling also represented in the body language being spoke by everyone in the room. The idea of “justice” is ingrained in America. Interrogation videos are heartbreaking to watch. Not knowing who is actually presenting truth clouds any decisive content. At any moment a confession could appear, or new facts emerge and direct focus somewhere else. This pivotal stage in a criminal case is showcased over and over in true crime stories all over America. The interactions between the individuals in the room help tell the story underneath the story.
Although I may have not committed the crime that caused me to be invited to an interrogation room, I am certainly guilty of some things in my life. My empathy comes from knowing that I am a sinner in need of Jesus, and I am just one bad decision from becoming the star of the next true crime series.
Beauty for Beauty’s Sake: Understanding Human Value
In my series, “Beauty for Beauty’s Sake”, I used shapes and patterns to represent textiles and pair them with pieces of the human form to mimic fashion ads. Consumers exist with a relationship to people and objects by influencing their perceived worth based on a desire for a conterfeit life. The use of the human form in advertising confuses love for people for the love of objects. The world is drawn to the physical and pulled into a false reality of purchased happiness and an altered understanding of the value of life. I believe that all people have monumental worth.
Just For Fun: Some Pieces for fun
Got to work on somethings that are fun. Loved working on these animal pieces. One of our own dog Neko and another of a good friend’s dogs. These were great studies that allowed me to step out of my typical style of painting in order to explore other expressions with oil on canvas.
